As GLBT Americans become more integrated into the fabric of society, the need to cluster in urban centers decreases. I will never forget the feeling of freedom the first time I stepped into a place where I could completely be who I was. Nor will I forget the anger as to why that space had been carved out of the city into our own little pink oasis. Although I mourn its demise, this can only be a very good thing:
“with the legalization of gay marriage and the ease with which members of the GLBT community and their heterosexual counterparts co-exist, you’ve got a city where it’s no longer necessary to ghettoize the gays.”
