Shocking News: A Republican Blames Clinton!

10 10 2006

How long do Republicans get to keep blaming everything on Bill Clinton?  Republicans have held the Presidency 18 of the last 26 years.  Apparently Clinton had 8 years to screw up everything and Bush hasn’t had enough time in the past 6 years to fix it all.

The family values base of the Republican Party finally lays it on the line:

“…does the party want to represent values voters or Mark Foley and friends?”

Republican Begs for Voters

10 10 2006

Is the Republican Party down to scary threats and begging?  Is that all they have left to try and retain power?  Simple question — is the state of our country and the world better now than it was 6 years ago?  Answer that and vote accordingly.

UPDATE:  Andrew Sullivan noticed the same thing and adds:

“If the Republicans do not get punished in this climate, they will absorb one lesson alone: keep doing what you’re doing. You can get away with anything. It’s not healthy for the country…”

I couldn’t agree more.

Bush Loses Conservative Pundit’s Support

9 10 2006

Are even the hard nose conservatives over at The National Review starting to clue in to the fact that President Bush tends to stretch the truth for his convenience?  According to John Derbyshire:

“Bush will wriggle, squirm, and lie

The GOP today is all smoke and mirrors.

Book Reports Bush Questions Axis of Evil

9 10 2006

Bob Woodward’s Book State of Denial contains a passage where then Governor George Bush asks:

“Why should I care about North Korea?”

Well this is why.  I don’t know what is scarier about this passage if true.  That George Bush really didn’t understand the complexities of world diplomacy and what the world would look like with a nuclear armed Kim Jong-il, or that he was getting advice from his “brother” Prince Bandar.

Hastert Could Help Decimate House GOP

5 10 2006

Fox News is reporting that if Hastert retains his leadership position until election day, Republicans could lose as many as 50 seats in the house.  This is according to “authoratative” internal polling.

UPDATE:  More polling shows that 61% of the American Public believe that Republican leaders have been protecting Foley.

Republicans Keep Gay Tolerance on the Down Low

5 10 2006

Andrew Sullivan on the Republican Party’s attitude toward Gay Americans:

“It is this deeper, more nuanced hypocrisy that this episode exposes. The closet tolerants–and they include both the president and vice president–exist in a party that has built its electoral machine on systematic intolerance and the fueling of populist fear of homosexuals.”

Republican Party to Purge Homosexuals From Its Midst?

5 10 2006

GayPatriot is reporting that the Republican party may begin to purge itself of gay identified staffers, etc.  He lists Kirk Fordham as the first casualty.  I think Mr. Fordham’s departure has more to do with his direct involvement and his actions in what some are referring to as “Foleygate” than with his being gay.

I have followed this story rather closely in the press and until reading about Mr. Fordham today on Andrew Sullivan’s Daily Dish, I was unaware that he was gay, openly or otherwise.  But if there is a purge beginning, then the answer to GayPatriot’s question:

“…since they are Republican staffers, it is okay to demonize and root them out, right?”

is in a word – No.

George Bush “Scares” up the Vote

5 10 2006

Why is this country so politically polarized?  I think language such as:

“…vote Republican for the safety of The United States of America.”

has a lot to do with it.
