While I am not a big fan of the Human Rights Campaign, I am a big fan of transparency in regards to non-profit organizations. I agree with Andrew Sullivan who says:
“Until they start answering questions posed by the media, stop giving them your money.”
These are simple questions being asked of you from the people who give you money. No Answers = No Money.
Maybe Andrew should allow comments on his blog so that others can check him on his crap before he continues calling for HRC to be more “transparent.” BTW, you will find more answers about HRC’s work on its website. All you have to do is look.
Having been a many year contributor to HRC and an HRC volunteer, I am very familiar with the organization and what it does. The questions being asked are not hard questions and should be answered by any non-profit. Not anwering the questions and being limited in transparency only leads to speculation about what is being left out. That is not good for any non-profit. And quite frankly with all the transparent charities doing good work as well, there are many places money can be put to good use without having to worry about the fiscal efficiency of the agency it is being given to. Maybe I should have said it more clearly, “no transparency = no money.”
