Say what you like about Hillary, but she is a smart and astute campaigner. This new “softer side” strategy is on the mark. When you have a 70 year old lady from Iowa saying,
“She is a decent woman.”
Hillary is definitely making inroads.

Things must be getting fractured over in Republican land if the National Review Online is considering traitorous timelines for the war in Iraq. As November 2008 approaches, even Republicans are starting to distance themselves from this war.
I will say it again. If we don’t have the political stomach to finish what we started in Iraq, then the troops should be brought home now.
God love the Queen. All that righteous indignation and a snazzy hat to boot. Total class.
Ok, now we will see just how accommodating that GOP “big tent” can be. Will 2008 be the year that Republicans nominate an obviously pro-choice candidate?
Yadda, yadda, yadda. We know the right is opposed to hate crime legislation that includes language for GLBT Americans. That is nothing new. However, this time around, the Democrats have majorities in both houses of congress and it is time that they passed this bill. Bush has, of course, threatoned a veto but if the Demcrats in congress do not pass hate crime legislation that includes GLBT Americans then they no longer deserve the gay support they have been given and the Human Rights Campaign should apologize for taking us down the wrong path.
UPDATE: Hate Crime Bill passes the house! That is the first step.
Ok, quiz time. Who said:
“One can’t doubt that the American objective in Iraq has failed.”
“It is simply untrue that we are making decisive progress in Iraq. The indicators rise and fall from day to day, week to week, month to month.”
The answer is, as they say, below the fold.
“As each day passes, it becomes increasingly clear that the Democrats will win the White House next year.

At some point, politically sophisticated conservatives will have to recognize that no Republican can win in 2008 and that their only choice is to support the most conservative Democrat for the nomination. Call me crazy, but I think that person is Hillary Clinton.
The prospects for 2008 must be grim if anyone at the National Review Online would utter even the most tepid of support for Hillary Clinton. Even though some polls show Hillary trailing for the Democratic Party nomination, don’t count her out. She is a very smart, tough as nails candidate and, given the storms she has weathered in the past, I will say now that she is the Democrat to beat both in the primaries and the general election.
Conservative support may just turn the tide.
