At some point, politically sophisticated conservatives will have to recognize that no Republican can win in 2008 and that their only choice is to support the most conservative Democrat for the nomination. Call me crazy, but I think that person is Hillary Clinton.
The prospects for 2008 must be grim if anyone at the National Review Online would utter even the most tepid of support for Hillary Clinton. Even though some polls show Hillary trailing for the Democratic Party nomination, don’t count her out. She is a very smart, tough as nails candidate and, given the storms she has weathered in the past, I will say now that she is the Democrat to beat both in the primaries and the general election.
Conservative support may just turn the tide.
