Obama Not Tough Enough?

15 11 2007

I would agree with Andrew Sullivan that:

“America’s current moment requires something other than more polarization and fearful pragmatism.”

However, I am not as sure that Obama is the person who can deliver.  Yes, America needs hope but it also needs someone who has experience dealing with the dog-eat-dog world that US politics has become.  A change in Commander in Chief is not going to miraculously overhaul the system at large.

Ron Paul’s Campaign Compared to Nazis

15 11 2007

I am thoroughly a fan of Andrew Sullivan and read him daily, but this Ron Paul comment:

“The Ron Paul Campaign is quite something isn’t it? Almost an open-source campaign. Just like the Nazis.”

is pretty much a cheap shot.  I realize that Andrew hates Hillary and hopes to find a Republican candidate worthy of his support (in the meantime he is all a twitter over Obama), but this isn’t a critique.  It is an outright baseless slam.

Victory In Iraq? Too Soon To Tell

15 11 2007

Tony Blankley makes the point that victory is at hand in Iraq.  I certainly agree that things have gotten better but I don’t think that anyone will know if victory in Iraq has been achieved until the US withdraws.

It is one thing to see improvement with a large, armed and active military presence and quite another to see if the society holds once that presence is removed.  Whether for or against the Iraq war, I don’t think that victory nor defeat can be determined while the US remains in country.
