Race vs. Gender – The Identity Politics of Hillary and Obama

15 01 2008

There is nothing racist in talking about Obama’s drug use, his record, his career, his life, or heck… even his lineage.  Obama is who he is and to talk about him, even to criticize him, does not make one racist.

Clinton is not much better in regards to gender but even Obama’s condescendingly dismissive ”you’re likeable enough” remark was not generally portrayed as misogynistic, just uncourteous.  On a side note, it is entertaining to watch the Democratic PC police begin to feed on their own.

This Presidential campaign is about race, gender, economic standing, experience and hopefully somewhere in that mix, policy positions because it is America. We are all these things and they come into play in every election regardless of “firsts.” We have had almost eight years of dissent and criticism being labeled unpatriotic.  We don’t need another eight years spent in fear of being labeled racist, chauvinist, bigoted or quite frankly anything else.
